We began developing with an aim to realize a vehicle that could be driven freely like a stallion, which would be environmentally-friendly, emit no noise, and possess a level of maneuverability not found in any previous vehicle.

Dual System withIntegrated Inverter

The 2-motor HV system was completed in 1993 in an aim to achieve overwhelmingly superior fuel economy.

Over the course of 11 years, we have evolved our motor and inverter technologies, and succeeded in developing a compact hybrid system by integrating the ECU and inverter into a single unit housed within the transmission.

A power-split device, which is a combination of the structures of a series hybrid and a parallel hybrid, was adopted.

RWD Multi-StageHybrid Transmission

The addition of a multi-stage shift device to the hybrid transmission made it possible to use the energy from the engine and the motor even more efficiently.

This also contributed to a significant improvement in the system output and its efficiency over all ranges, which made both excellent acceleration and low fuel economy possible.

PHEV Transmission

In this system, the single motor and the clutch is placed within the torque converter portion of the existing automatic transmission.

The clutch could detach the engine from the transmission, which made running in full electric vehicle (EV) mode possible, while realizing a significant improvement in fuel economy.

Achieved a higher rank of driving performance by applying the power from both the motor and the engine to the 8-speed transmission.

High-efficiency 3-axis gear train and optimization of motor realize compact and light weight and high efficiency, and can be mounted on both front and rear sides of vehicle.
